From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Thank you E H Crouch
Losing a parent is never an easy thing, even though my father was 96 years old.
When we met with Laura at the Baldock office, we could not ask for a more understanding and sympathetic person. She took us through everything one step at a time, ensuring that she understood what we wanted and made sure that everything was in place for the day, including arranging for an excellent celebrant in Graham Ellis.
On the day, the hearse, directors and coffin were immaculate. As family members were to be pallbearers, Nick and his team talked them through the steps and motions, remaining in the wings almost invisible to ensure that nothing went wrong.
As funerals go, we could not ask for a better team to have worked with.
From start to finish Laura and the team were excellent at the Baldock branch as they had been for my mothers 18 months before.
They made good suggestions and were so helpful
Graham Ellis the celebrant and Nick Pugh the head of the team on the day were brilliant to give my dad a good send off and celebrate his life before his resting place at Wilbury Cemetery
Laura in the Baldock office has been brilliant throughout the process. E H Crouch have been extremely professional in handling my mums funeral. Perry the funeral director on the day was very helpful and guided us through the process before and during.
Thoughtful, kind and compassionate at a difficult time
